We're excited to invite you to another hands-on habitat project that will make a real difference for Arizona's wildlife.
On Saturday, August 22, the Arizona Elk Society will be working on the Moqui Invasive Weed Treatment Project, helping remove invasive diffuse knapweed from the top of the East Clear Creek watershed.

While we're known as the Arizona Elk Society, our mission is to conserve habitat that benefits all Arizona wildlife. This project focuses on improving habitat for bighorn sheep by removing invasive weeds that compete with the native grasses and wildflowers, ewes rely on while raising their lambs. Since this community sits at the top of the watershed, removing these weeds before they produce seed helps protect the surrounding National Forest lands and critical wildlife habitat downstream.
We'll start the morning with donuts before heading to the project sites. Lunch, water, Gatorade, and snacks will be provided throughout the day. Some knapweed plants pull easily by hand, while larger plants will need to be dug out. We'll provide gloves and shovels for anyone who needs them.
We'll be working in two areas: along a gravel road and in the open space of the Moqui Draw. This project is perfect for individuals and families looking to spend a day outdoors making a visible impact on wildlife conservation.
We've also been told there's a good chance we'll see bighorn sheep while we're working!
